About the production
Fairy tales are stories passed down from one generation to the next, usually with an intention to convey some message and conscience to the future generations. Many fairy tales do so through depiction of events and incidents or by showing impacts experienced by different characters. While some of the messages may seem stereotypical and superstitious on the surface, they can reveal useful crafts, techniques, and urges if the perspective is changed. “Joon” is not just a fairy tale, it is a combination of multiple fairy tales that we have heard since our childhood that initiate important conversations which can be applied to the modern society, adapted to fit the Nepali context.

The purpose of this musical dance drama is to invite the audience to look back at the stories they heard as fairy tales and reflect upon them with human perspectives. Joon attempts to redefine the female characters from often-heard fairy tales, who have been demonized, victimized, and marginalized since those primitive times. Women have been oppressed and exploited by society throughout history, but speaking out against the oppression and exploitation in a timely manner can bring about change, even if it is just a little, as portrayed in the play.

Production of Aesthetic Dance Studio and an amalgamation of music, Kathak dance and emotion-provoking performance, Joon had been premiered on Friday, 24th March 2023 at Rastriya Nachghar, Jamal celebrating the womens' month with its sole supporter, the Shequal Foundation.
